Nelson is located in Cheshire County, New Hampshire and includes the village of Munsonville.

Nelson was first named Monadnock No. 6 and then Packersfield.  It was incorporated in 1774 and the name was changed to Nelson in 1814, after the British naval hero, Viscount Horatio Nelson.

Nelson, New Hampshire was once an agricultural town and then began to develop industry.  Located in Nelson, the town of Munsonville was once a manufacturer of cotton cloth and thousands of chairs annually.  Today it is a resort town and home to summer houses.

Nelson is comprised of 21.9 square miles of land and 1.4 square miles of water.  The center of town is a pass-through for the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway.  The fifty mile hiking trail crosses the highlands of southern New Hampshire, from Jaffrey’s Mount Monadnock to Newbury’s Mount Sunapee.  Nelson is home to the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Nelson’s population at the time included 634 people, 162 families and 247 households.  The average family size was 3.19 and the average household size was 2.57.
